PAMPAS: This
fascinating landscape, close to Rurrenabaque, is domain of the Yacuma
River, which meanders through dense riverside Amazonian forests and
streams, connecting small lakes, swamps, wetlands, and grasslands. The
region is famous among nature lovers for its high diversity and abundance
of major wildlife. Its open, expansive vegetation allows you to closely
observe capybaras, pink river dolphins, monkeys (including black howler,
squirrel and brown capuchin monkeys), anacondas, caimans and rheas in
their habitat: a compelling experience!.
Day 1 - Rurrenabaque / Pampas
Depart from Rurrenabaque in 4WD at 9:00 and arrive at Caracol Lodge
on the Yacuma River about half-past Noon. After lunch, explore the river
by dugout canoe to sight pink dolphins, monkeys, capybaras, turtles
and great birdlife, including raptors, storks, herons, egrets, toucans,
small parrots and macaws. Return to the lodge. (L,D)
Day 2 - Pampas
After breakfast, explore more of the Yacuma by canoe. We will make a
landing and search on foot in the savannah to locate and observe an
Anaconda, the world's largest snake. Return to the lodge for lunch and
an opportunity to see pink dolphins, turtles, and capybaras. An afternoon
tour provides you opportunities see rheas, anteaters, and monkeys. Optional
night boat ride allows you to watch nocturnal life, such as caimans.

Day 3 - Pampas / Rurrenabaque
Enjoy breakfast and last chance to see additional wildlife before lunch.
Return to Rurrenabaque: arrive about 5:00 pm (B,L)

Tour includes:
Caracoles Lodge 3d/2n, accommodation, meals, local guide (basic
english) and transport from/to Rurrenabaque.
Not included: Rurrenabaque accommodation and meals, alcoholic
drinks, sodas, insurance, airport taxes US$ 3/person each way,
Pampas entrance fee US $22/person or Bs. 150.00 and personal expenses.
What to take:
Luggage:
backpack or dufflebag, small day pack
Clothes:
- long-sleeved shirts, preferably cotton (to protect yourself
from mosquitoes and the sun)
- long cotton pants shorts
- T-shirts sweater or fleece/polartec (to be prepared for a cold
front)
- windbreaker/rain poncho
- pair of hiking boots
- pair of sneakers
- pair of sandals or Tevas (river crossings, casual wear around
the lodge)
- swimsuit
- socks
- underwear
- sleepwear
- casual clothes for Rurrenabaque
- waterproof folding sun hat with brim
Other items:
- binoculars, best 8x or 10x
- camera film (ASA 50, 100 and 200 are recommended)
- sun block
- mosquito repellent (30% DEET -100% DEET could be too much for
your skin)
- flashlight sunglasses
- pocket knife
- a bandanna
- plastic bags (for your camera in the boat and for dirty clothes)
- a photocopy of your passport
- water bottle
- cigarette lighter (even if you don't smoke it will come in handy
- candles, etc.)
- bottle of aspirin and any other medications and vitamins you
normally use
